I Am Feeling Very Patriotic

This morning I put on my Wounded Wear shirt, grabbed my retired Marine husband and headed to Marine Corps Base Quantico to buy my AR. We searched high and low and the base was the only place that had “my” gun. A few places couldn’t even order it, but one could. Ordering would mean I would have to wait and that just wasn’t gonna happen.

The moon and stars did indeed align for this purchase. No one was there. I walked right up to the counter and 2 very nice gentlemen were MORE than willing to help me.

The only problem was whatever it is about me that encourages folks to bond with me was working with one of the salesmen. He was so nice and he was chit chatting up a storm about his cats. He has 11. His wife and 4 daughters are big fans of felines and he has some characters in the group. I loved to hear his adventures as he was so excited to tell me, but part of me was like, dude, please either hush up or fill out my paperwork as you reminisce.

Anywho, I bought a Colt AR-15 6920 Law Enforcement. It’s a carbine. I decided to listen to my friend Tim and buy new. I was leaning toward the Smith & Wesson, but after looking and looking I fell in love with the Colt.

It was cool for me to buy my own gun with money I had earned. It was a bonus that it was earned helping John teach other people how to take positive decisive action in their own lives. My husband and I have been married since we were 20. We have been broke, I have made more money than him at times and we don’t separate our money. that isn’t the point. The money I make working for John isn’t really mine and, of course, I couldn’t have that pile of cash set aside if TSM didn’t pay for, you know, everything else. But he is kind and understood there was something about me making the money, picking out and buying my first rifle(technically he bought the Mosin). He stood at the end of the counter smiling bigger than anyone would think possible.

I also “accidentally” bought a Shield. There she was waiting and calling out to me, so I felt a duty to bring her home.

Now, who wants to help me name the rifle??? It feels male, but that might just be me.

  1. That’s AWESOME!

I couldn’t help but notice- you ain’t got no shoes on. There’s an old saying about keeping a woman barefoot… but I don’t think it applies when they have a rifle in their hands 🙂 Congrats!

    • Lol, I know. My shoes are usually the first thing to go after a long day.

I only shoot people who are trying to take my life, but nothing says I won’t punch you(I seriously can hit hard) should one tick me off:)

  2. Coolness, and kudos on the AR. The Mrs. saw the pic, the new AR, in front of the new truck, and said, “Proud Mama!”
TSM is a lucky dude. And I know all about that smile. I’ve had the same one, for the same reason, a couple of times.

As for naming the baby, the Mrs. says, “Colton.” She likes to keep things simple. Her EDC Rossi is known as “Roscoe”.

    • Ahh, thank you! As you know, I am very fond of your wife:)

I like Colton, but I am a meaning person. Either something significant to me or America.

      Roscoe is very cool!

  3. The Colt you selected is simply as “good as it gets” so stock up on magazines and mag pouches, then lay in a good supply of ammunition and sign up for a tactical rifle/carbine course. You’ll never regret this purchase or any rifle training you take. As for a name for your new rifle I suggest “Coterie” given your growing firearms battery. I like the S&W Shield; probably more than the Ruger Lc9 I tried out and gave to my wife. It doesn’t have the identical trigger pull of the M&P 9 but it’s quite similar so you’ll be in a position to go with a slimmer, but capable pistol when the need arises. Your really coming into your own with respect to self empowerment and capability, coming to terms with reality equates to success, every time. Good for you and a very supportive family.

  4. Congrats! On both your intentional purpose and your “accidental” one 😉

Sometimes, I have to wait for names to come to me. The Para never got one, she’s just The Para, sometimes, she’s My Baby. The shotgun is BAMF.

Hopefully you’ll find good names that feel right.

    • Who cares about logic when it comes to things like this???

Logic should be saved for things that matter like say the economy, freedoms, security….

      Name what you want.

  5. Congrats on the rifle! Good advice above on buying lotsa mags, ammo, and training.

More unsolicited advice: simple two point sling.

Can’t help you on the name…I am in a different school of thought which says “don’t fall in love with your gun.” So no names for my stuff.

Got names for my cats, tho, all five of them! 🙂

    • Oh my, I am so in love with my gun:) Funny, I have never named a pistol, but my rifles I name. Well. I have one rifle and I named her:)

  6. Well, you named your truck Jayne. So, that’s out. But, keeping with the Firefly theme I would suggest Simon. Shepherd Book is more of a pistol caliber carbine type name (you know, because the Bible is a little fuzzy on the subject of knee caps). Mal is an authority figure of anti authoritarianism. So, that’s more like a Barrett 50 cal name. Wash’s true genius is flying. So, that would be a good name for a missle launcher. If it were full auto, Mr. Universe for the ability to broadcast.

  7. Woo hoo for you!! Nice gun, nice pose, but let’s remember our manners here, shall we? Doesn’t one of our Internet Info on Guns people say it’s unladylike to shoot someone without your shoes??? You’re supposed to blow THEM outta their shoes, lady! (But by golly, a pic of a hot looking lady with her trigger in the right place, priceless!)

I”m so glad you got a Shield, now we match. You can find the best coolest IWB holster, and I’ll buy it. I call my gun Callie, as in Calamity Jane. The name fits me better than the gun, and Annie,as in Oakley, is already taken by my 1800’s Winchester rifle that the men in this house keep stealing to hunt deer. Annie loves her some venison.

I know exactly what you mean about buying your own gun with money you earned. I did that with Callie, bought her online, then when she arrived, took my money and my new girl to hubby and said “there’s gonna be a charge on the visa”. Even tho we love the men in our lives, sometimes we just have to do some things for ourselves. (Oh, and I also gave him the Sigma he had bought me for Christmas last year. The one I’m pretty sure he picked out cos he liked it…for him!)

As for the name…pick an Archangel’s name. Gabriel? That could be male or female, but saying “Hey, TSM, I’m gonna go spend some quality time with Gabe” sounds fun.

Glad you had a nice AMERICAN day!!!!

    • I love the name of your gun. Awesome!!

Who knew not wearing shoes would get so much attention. Good thing I had pants on:)

  8. Sweet ! Very good choice.I don’t name my handguns either..Senior calls my Glock “Baby glock”.. My AR , on the other hand I did name and its “Brock” Because he is sleek and super sexy. The kids always seem to name my cars after Transformers, My new one is “Sideswipe”

You can get extra mags from Cheaper then dirt , and think about the .22 conversion , its a quick little pop in thing so that way you don’t expend the expensive .223 ammo.

    • Lol, love the name of your car. Too cute that your kids named it. Other than my cars, I have never named anything. When Ingot the Mosin Nagant, everyone said name her, somI did. I love her name though.

      Brock is very cool!

  9. Hmmmm….all-American name…I’d go with something like Bubba. Pleasant to be around, until you p!ss him off. Mr.Bigglesworth is the same, brings to mind the quiet, mousy little guy, the kind who walks softly, but will really ruin your day when provoked.

  10. I think Ozymandias is a good name. Ozzie for short.

Miss B says Houston, as in, “Houston, we have a problem.”

Mrs B says Rocky. She’s got a thing for Sylvester Stallone.

  11. Good choice….go with the “Original” maker of the M16. I was issued a Colt M16A1 a few times, also had one made by Hyromatic…Bushmaster etc.

I had a brand new Colt M4 in one of my classes a few months back– worked perfect. I also am very happy with their new 1911s.

  12. Wow! Pretty exciting news! When you make a decision, you MOVE on it, don’t you? 🙂 Congrats on the purchases. You did well. You can’t go wrong with the Colt. The Shield appears to be a winner according to what I’ve been reading/hearing.

Is the Shield going to be a primary carry or a BUG?

YES! By all means, stock up on mags and ammo. Magpul PMAG’s have been very, very good to me.

A name for the Colt? Even though he was no fan of the 5.56, I’d go with “Cooper” anyway.

    Good job!

    • Heeheehee, I said it was time to get serious. I take a while sometimes to make my choice, but once I do, I am an action kind of gal.

I haven’t decided on the Shield yet. I literally bought it because they are hard to find and I figured if I didn’t like it, I could resale it fairly easily. Have had 2 offers already, so… I am sure I will like it though.

I like the name Cooper. Almost named our pup that. Totally putting that on the list. Thanks!

  13. Nice.

Pat Rogers lives in Virginia IIRC, though doesn’t seem to have any Virgina area classes soon. He’s a very good instructor, though not exactly patient with people who bring crappy guns to his classes (don’t ask me how I know…) On the good side I don’t think he’s broken a student’s ribs in class. 🙂

    • Lol, well that is good. Not really looking to do that again and I don’t think I own a crappy gun:)

      Thanks for the info!!

  14. Coolest name for an AR by far has been Faliaphotography’s “Sprinkles”. (Because it “sprinkles” brass out all over the place!).

Sit on it. The right name will come. I’ve never named any guns, but I have a guitar that’s named, and it fit. Just had to wait for the right name.

+1 on buying ammo and taking classes.

  15. Sorry, but I do not believe that guns have names. Naming a thing imbues it with some sort of personality, and doing that just gives ammunition to the batsnit crazy antis to say the object is in and of itself evilll. If he has not already done so, get TSM to teach you “This is my rifle”. Your rifle is a tool that you become intimately and completely familiar with. All my rifles out of the box shoot low and to the left – that’s just the way they are. Slight adjustments of the sights remedies that peculiarity, but it certainly is not a personality trait of them.

But getting to the important stuff – congratulations on buying your first rifle. It’s part of the transition from dependant to self-sufficient person.

    stay safe.

    • Things have meaning. I have a very deep affection for the thing that will help me save my life should I be faced with no other choice but to defend it. That is worthy of a name to me. I don’t care about the anti’s. I certaintly do not try to incite them or egg them on, but I am tired of always pandering to their every ridiculous excuse for reasons to take my rights away.

TSM is more than willing to help me learn and I am obsessive about learning. I will know that thing well, trust me:)

Thank you for the good wishes and advice on shooting it!!

      You stay safe too!
