Behind The Scenes

In the past few months we have once again been made aware of the cruelties of life.  A friend’s daughter tried to kill herself, others that we know are dealing with the memories of a life of value, but not without sacrifice. Our daughter’s teenage friends are struggling and looking for comfort in a very scary and changing world. I had an old friend call me today. I actually had two old friends call me.Things are not always what they seem.

Today my daughter who was home sick from school was playing music on her phone and the song that stood out to me was this one. I must have listened to it 20 times. I included the words and highlighted what stood out to me as it pertained to the folks in my life struggling.

You may think
I’m just fine
How could anything
Ever be out of line?

I take my time
To set the stage
To make sure everything
Is all in place

Even though I’ve got the lines rehearsed
A picture only paints a thousand words

(Chorus)
Things aren’t always what they seem
You’re only seeing part of me
There’s more than you could ever know
Behind the scenes
I’m incomplete and I’m undone
But I suppose like everyone
There’s so much more that’s going on
Behind the scenes

Sometimes I can’t see
Anything
Through the dark
Surrounding me
And at times I’m unsure
About the ground
Beneath my feet
If it’s safe and sound

When it’s hard to find hope in the unseen
I have peace in knowing it will find me

(Chorus)

You may think I’m just fine
How could anything ever be out of line?

I am so in love with my life and the people in it, but everyone struggles from time to time. You all got to witness mine.  I pray with ever ounce of my being, you all know how much you are valued and loved.

  1. Our little community here is special because of the unfaltering kindness and friendship demonstrated on a daily basis. You are about 6 hours away by car from me, but electrons move a bit faster than that!

  2. “I am so in love with my life and the people in it, but everyone struggles from time to time. You all got to witness mine. I pray with ever ounce of my being, you all know how much you are valued and loved.”

    And also with you!!!!!

  3. I pray your friend’s family will find the peace they need . . . . so many are searching for that right now. Keads is right, I like this little corner of the gunnie verse . . . . .

  4. Life isn’t fair, it’s what you make of it. When a friend struggles or calls be there to listen, help(the best way you can), or just hold a hand. We may think we know what’s going on in their lives but until you listen……truly listen, you don’t.
Look around you, be thankful for the life you have along with your family and friends because it could change in a second.

  5. Good post, especially going into this season… Now is the highest suicide rate in the year. And few DO reach out, mainly because they are embarrassed …

  6. I was not familiar with that song. Thank you for sharing it. It has been me so many times. And then I’m reminded that I am so richly blessed by my community.
Prayers to the family. All the hurts in the world seem so much bigger when you are young. My heart breaks for them.

  7. Many of us relate so well to those words. Thanks for sharing and for caring.
