My Rifle Has A Name

I was informed that while I have the right to do what I want, rifles are female, so while I value individualism, I also honor tradition.

“You must do the things you think you cannot do”
Eleanor Roosevelt

“Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility. For the person who is unwilling to grow up, the person who does not want to carry is own weight, this is a frightening prospect”
Eleanor Roosevelt

“In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.” Eleanor Roosevelt

“One’s philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes… and the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility” Eleanor Roosevelt
“You have to accept whatever comes and the only important thing is that you meet it with courage and with the best that you have to give.” Eleanor Roosevelt
“We are afraid to care too much, for fear that the other person does not care at all.” Eleanor Roosevelt

“Remember always that you not only have the right to be an individual, you have an obligation to be one.” Eleanor Roosevelt
“Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give.” Eleanor Roosevelt
“People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built.” Eleanor Roosevelt
My personal favorite and one I try to live by daily…
“We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face… we must do that which we think we cannot.”Eleanor Roosevelt
So in keeping with tradition and history, she will be known from now on as Eleanor.

  1. “The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!”. Eleanor Roosevelt

  2. I have no idea why those quotes are bunched together. I have edited this 3 times and in the edit mode, it is right. I am sorry.

  3. Very nice. As a Steve McQueen fan it has a double meaning for me.

My rifle is named “Abraham” because the serial number is the year Israel was created.

Obviously I don’t care about the gender of the rifle.

  4. Volumes have been spoken in the name you’ve chosen in sticking to your values. Keeping it meaningful to you and to traditional America, may we all have an Eleanor someday and hold the same values you represent on a Daily basis!

  5. Just don’t start singing about Eleanor Rigby and everything will be hunky dory…

  6. I have named several of my weapons and think it is a fine tradition. Your choice of an exemplary woman and role model is simply splendid. Enjoy her and may she help keep you safe and sane. Regards, Bart

  7. Had I known you’d consider girl names, I would have suggested Zoe or River. But, Eleanor is a great name. It was my grandmother’s name.

    • Lol, I didn’t even know I was considering female Names, Oh yeah, those are good names. Hadn’t even thought about them.

Your grandmother had a beautiful name. I think it feminine yet strong.

  8. Interesting. I didn’t know that there was a tradition involving naming rifles. I’ve never heard anyone call their rifle anything (maybe it’s just an American thing). Regardless I do like the name Eleanor and the reasons that you’ve chosen it.

    Enjoy your new friend 🙂

    • I had no idea either until I bought the Mosin. I know many people also name their handguns.

Before guns, I only name my kids, animals, and my car.

      Thanks for stopping by!!!!
